Just bought my bot. 4x8 alpha. it was used about 50 hours and i am excited. I owe all of you a thanks. I would not have bought it if the people on this forum would not have been so generous with info. I wish there was a forum this great for raising kids, being a good husband, etc.
I passed up an auction for a used 4x8 gerber sabre with vac hold down, 10 hp spindle. the gerber went for $11,000. at auction. Paid more for the bot but happier.

Was that Gerber at the Ken Graphics auction. If it was you were fortunate not to get it because it needed quit a bit of work. I work with the fellow who ran it and he said it needed about $4000 to replace all the worn parts. We were going to bid on it and he talked us out of it.

Jerry, Thanks for letting me know that. yes the gerber router was at the ken graphics auction. I was bidding online site unseen but did not want to bid over $10,000. Plus we do not have 3phase.
I am thinking that 5 to 10 years down the road that some router makers will have problems because of all the competition. I felt that ShopBot had a formula that is and will be hard to compete against. But that is my opinion.

David sounds like you are delivering a good wholesale product at a good price on time and are trustworthy and convenient to work with. Hard to find that all those qualities. We have some router people we can work with but they are too far from us.

Congrats! Take your time and ask questions. My purchase decision too was very much swayed by this forum. I recently talked to the owner of another cnc machine who said they were having trouble even getting the company on the phone lately. They read this forum and said they wished they'd gone with a shopbot.

As for the forums on how to be good husbands... they're out there but they seem to be mostly women telling me what my wife has tells me already :-)
