I am wondering how well they run if that is the only upgrade I do...

Any experienced comments would be greatly appreciated.

I upgraded my pr to the 4g and it's like a different machine. I can now cut at 5ips and it runs smother. I would never go back. It is nice to use the newer software also.

I couldn't get over the difference. Runs smoother and travels at a good clip. It was an excellent upgrade for me. I am very happy with the results.

I agree. My machine was originally a cable slip ... oops cable drive machine. I eventually built 'gear-drives' (actually belts and gears) for the original motors and have a ball-screw 'Z'.

All I can add is the drives seem to give more 'authority' to the motors. I haven't pushed the machine as hard - it seems- but speeds are higher and 'lost steps' appear to be lost for now.

Thanks for the input...

What type of Z do you use, and how did you upgrade it?

What motors are being used?

Richard,

If this is addressed to me, it I am running PK266-02A motors and the Z is a ShopBot ballscrew Z with a different but similar motor.

I might have answered sooner but it is an 'open' question and I failed to renew my clairvoyance license after missing the last economic downturn.
