I just got back from a new show of "sculpture"at the Key West Custom house. The artist is Seward Johnson ( ever use a Johnson and Johnson product? ). His specialty is creating "interactive sculpture" and in this exhibit he did a group of well known pieces, with his own technique.
To his credit Seward also uses his considerable resources to help other artists, and he has formed the "Grounds for Sculpture"campus in New Jersey;

I went to the exhibit because even though Seward has one of the largest CNC machines in the US ( a 10 FOOT Z depth...), and a full "digital sculpting" program, he also does much of his work the same way many Shopbotters have begun to attempt. Styrofoam, with a hard coating. Here are a few shots of the pieces I saw yesterday. I will go back today and try to get some more pix, if I can find a break inthe crowds to get a clear view.
One of the pictures below is NOT Seward's but hand built by an artist simply known as "Mendoza" (the mahogany crab sculpture...). Along the way I met this great girl named Mona who let me hang out in her frame for awhile (but she insisted I trade my normal hat for something more time specific...)

Bill,
You're working too hard! Take a break for cryin' out loud.

Looks like another place to put on my list of places to visit.

I'm amazed at the attention to detail, the muscle structure, the skintones, the detail on the clothes, and the scale of the sculpture and just the amazing lifelike features....and oh yeah, the girl sitting down looks good too!
