Hi All. I have a PRT Alpha with 7.2 motors and I have been having a problem when in Keyboard Control mode. If I hold down one of the arrow keys to move, or jog, in one direction (X or Y) the bot 'skips' and makes a horrible mechanical crashing noise. It doesn't seem to lose position and doesn't fault. I can only think this might have something to do with holding the key, as It never does this when it is moving 'to' a destination. Any thoughts? Thanks

Frank,
Type in VR. Change the last 3 values to the following & see if it improves:

Fast Stop Threshold = 1
KeyPad Stop Threshold = 2
KeyPad Ramp Rate = .2

I had this same problem when I had anti virus, network, & other background software running. It seems to need the full attention of the computer in keyboard mode. I went to thumb drives only, no network, eliminated the anti virus and all other non essential stuff that takes resources, the problem disappeared.

Also disable the auto updates where the computer will NOT check for them

Thanks for the tips everyone.

Gene and Bob, I also have my Bot-Computer isolated from everything (no network, no background software running, but I may still have too many processes running, so I'll check again.

Brady, I tried to change these settings last night, and realized that I'm using ver 3.4.x. I should probably update it, but although I'm a tech-nerd, I haven't had a reason to update yet. I'll try tonight. Also, Is it possible you could send me your recommended vr settings for smooth running with a 7.2 setup? Your experience is greatly valued, and I realize that these are 'recommendations' and I take them on at my own risk.

Thank you everyone for the input, I'll keep you updated on the results. I love this forum almost as much as I love my Bot! (And the smell of sawdust)

Frank

Brady, Bob, Gene and Joe,

Thank you all for taking the time to help me with this little problem. The Control software update had some major delivery pains (I decided to go with version 3.5.20 due to some people having issues with 3.6. Can't risk it stopping mid program on me.) After lots of choice words and an increase in blood pressure I figured out that I had missed the essential Firmware Update. Software is in and running like a dream. Keyboard control is working flawlessly now. Just have to re tweak some custom files and variables (Z-zero plate thickness etc).

So in closing, Thank you Thank you Thank you.
