Hello-

right now my electrician is hooking up my prtalpha control box.

He's looking for clarification that having a stinger leg in the 3 phase system is ok.

I have a call in to shopbot but I had to leave a message. Any immediate replies is appreciated.

What is a 'stinger leg' ?

Are you running 208 or 230v?

Is it a Wye or Delta system?

You should be fine pulling off one leg of the 3ph to get 120v. You will have to combine one hot with the neutral from the 208v star/wye system (should be 120v) or 'safety ground' from the 230v system + a hot leg.

Be sure to have this double checked with your electrician to make sure it is correct before hooking it up.

thanks I should have posted more info

I have Delta 5hp VFD-B. 220V 3phase

Stinger Leg is one wire carrying 230V - for example - in a 3 phase A=120, B=120, C=(stinger leg):230V.

But, I got impatient and went for it and it seems fine. I got the spindle to spin using the VFD controller. Now I'm trying to get the shopbot software to see the correct usb/serial port.

any additional comments re that or the electrical is appreciated.

Don't forget here we have 230V-240V on only a single wire all the time.
