I am looking for a ShopBot owner near Savannah, Ga for a machine demo. We are considering purchasing one for our plant. Also would like to hear from a user with a vacuum table for holding the material.

Steve,
We are in the Atlanta area, and have a 5x8 bot and a 30 hp vac. We use it everyday, and we cut everything from wood, plexi, foam, and even cardboard. If you can make it up here we would be glad to show it to you.

Thanks,
Don Smull

I'm in the McDonough, Ga area (just south of Atlanta) I have a PRT Alpha 48 x 96 and use two fein vacs for full table hold down. The other side of power from the 30hp vac but surprisingly effective as well.

I primarily cut sheet plywood but also cut foam, aluminum, plexi etc...

You're welcome here as well.

I agree with RB we to started with the Fein vacs. The only reason we have a 30 hp is we had more than one cnc hooked up to it. besides that they are not as loud as a large vac.

I appreciate the input. To briefly detail the shaping, picture taking 36" x 36" x 1-1/2" thick piece of foam that has a 4" hole in the center. The sloping starts in the center at a depth of -1" then slopes upward and outward to within 1" or so of the perimeter. How long would you say it would take to rough it out? We have a hand rasp for finishing, just want to take out the bulk of the material.

Almost James. This appears to be more bowl-like. The slope will be straight (not curved) and extend to the corners. Since we are shaping this from 3 # EPS foam, I wonder how big of a ball nose cutter we can use to reduce the number of passes? This is only one of the steps in our process, I think the bot will perform others as well, but I am just trying to get a handle on the run time, etc for doing these. Thanks again for all the input. Have a great day! Steve
