I'm setting up a positive displacement vacuum I got real cheap. I read that I should put a vacuum relief valve in between the filter and the vacuum intake. Can someone please give me a link or tell me what kind would work. The pump I have says it has safe working maximum of 15"hg.

One source is Grainger.com. They should have one that meets your specs

something like this? Do you just watch the vacuum gauge and adjust it until it reaches something just above 15" before opening?

No. You need an automatic valve that mmets the specs of the pump that you are installing.

Here are some examples: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/search.shtml?op=search&N=13485&Ne=10071&in_dim_sea rch=1

I am using a Sutorbilt lobe vacuum if that makes any difference, not a regen.

You dont say what your usage for this pump will be, nor do you give the models number or specs. Even if you had I would be hesitant to reccommend a relief valve for you as these pumps are expensive and the wrong valve may torch one in a few minutes. Most of these pumps have a minimum air flow that has to be provided by the relief valve. Too little air and they will burn up in short time.

What I can tell you is to look up your pump on its mfgr. site and see what is reccommended for a relief valve. Most of these have a 1 1/2" or 2" pipe thread body. About 10 times the size and cost of the one you refer to.

This is one area where you want to do your due diligence with your research to find the proper part.
