I have a guy who wants me to Vcarve letters into 1.5" thick foam that is 15"x31" that he is then going to gold leaf.
What is the best font for gold leafing and what degree bit to use?
Lastly what would a good charge be? Don't know the text but it can't be that much.
Jack,
Make it easy on yourself and just charge by the minute for the cutting and carving. I charge $1.00 a minute regardless whether I do the design or the customer does the design.
See what Partworks/Aspire figures in time and tell the customer this is an estimate and the final cost will reflect the actual time recorded in the log file.

Jack, You can guild any style of lettering.
Just use the appropriate letter style for the type of business or wording.
It's all in the design!
Most gold leaf letters are carved way to deep if you don't know what you are doing.
They don't need to be deep, the light will pick up much better with a 120 or 150 degree bit than a 60 degree bit.

I used to charge the sign guys 1.00 per minute. I got my shop rate for the cutting but then found myself cleaning up and buying bits out of my pocket.
I charge sign guys $2.00 per minute and I am better off. I also imposed a 1 hour minimum for guys I don't do a lot of cutting for.
They are always happy with prices.
