I bet I have done it 10 times. replace the cord two or three times. sometimes they just break. but sometimes if I am not careful the cord gets run over by the y v wheels.

Guys...
I used a banana plug & connector and made it removable. Its never in the way... but sometimes not as close as I wish.

I wrapped all of my cords together and hung them from my ceiling on a barn door track with rollers so it follows the machine. I did this with my dust collection hose also.

And here I thought I was the only one that ever did that! I was too embarrased to admit that one!
Thanks Steve!

Now it's more than a forum. It's a support group.
Virtual group hugs anyone? ;)

(I couldn't resist.)

I had to replace mine after it got caught in the Z carriage track and ran through the V roller.
Really annoying, but it was my fault. Too big of a hurry to get the cut started.

I left my alligator clip on the bit and turned the spindle on - 10,000 rpm...I had several pieces of cord after that...so glad that we do not need to use it now!

Forget to put the z-plate back in the holder, No. Forget to zero a new bit (even worse a drill bit.), A few times! Drill bits do not make very clean cuts drug through MDF.

I have never done it and I tend to be an ADD person.. My z cord ALWAYS gets clipped to the Z Plate and it ALWAYS goes in the holder before I hit the return key on C2.
I even put messages in my files suck as:
Tool: V90_1.25 loaded?
Table Clear?
Vacuum ON?
because in the rush or excitement, I forget to be safe...
I have "almost" forgot to zero the tool on the third tool....

I have never run over my Z plate cord. I enjoy an entirely different set of problems. . .
Metaphysical inhabitation. Medical Terminology: Stoogeophrenia
I'm pretty sure that's what happens when I begin to operate my Bot. I usually transform into Moe, with an occasional Curly inhabitation. Larry visits infrequently, but has made his appearance also. This has caused me to behave in a semi-conscious idiotic state on numerous occasions. How else can I explain why I programmed a Z move of -0500 instead of -0.500? Boy was that fun!!! Or, Jog X to 95" when I did a 2D offset at 36" from original 0"? I didn't know a ShopBot could make that much noise. Or, forget to raise the Z to a safe altitude and snap off numerous cutters when I run into some obstruction on the table. Ok, that was probably me.
And another thing, how many times do I have to run into a deck screw hold down while cutting (I don't use a vacuum - that would make things far too easy) before I really believe that a 1/4" solid carbide cutter won't cut through it, that it will snap on contact and I get to buy another one.
I won't bore you with more unexplainable behavior due to these mysterious inhabitations just now although rest assured there are many more volumes besides these. I know I'm not that stupid or absent minded so there is simply no other explanation.
Is anyone else experiencing these transformations? Or is it just me. . . ?

Ronco those symptoms clearly are indicitive of a multiple personality disorder and clearly your different personalities are names Moe, Larry, and Curly...
I am glad to know that i'm not the only Stooges fan here.

Ronco I'm sorry to admit - it's not just you (or just the four of you). I have witnessed each of those fiascos personally. Unfortunately there was no one else in the room at the time or they might have been able to help me catch the perpetrator.
The two times I can remember running over the Z zero cord, the Z zero plate vibrated off the holder during a cut and I was too far away to catch it. I won't hazard a guess as to who's fault it was that the zero plate wasn't adequately stored.
I've also been dumb enough to leave several sheets worth of laminate parts on the 'bot while fine tuning some toolpaths, thinking I was in Preview Mode, running into some problems, having to restart ShopBot, forgetting that it was going to restart in Move Mode, and having to re-order and re-cut a bunch of laminate. Never again will I use my table for storage while the control box is turned on.

Watch at (4:30) thats what this reminds me of...
woop, woop, woop!
Do you all know that the alligator clip can go supersonic when you leave it clipped to a bit and hit start? That was just the start of the mistery, The clip has never been seen since. The cord was alot shorter and more curlyier. After a few times ( ok 21) times of the z plate falling out of the holder i put a few rubber door bumpers on the top side at the edge so it wont fall out anymore.
As for snapping bits i just write it off as helping the economy and Fred and onsrud and a few other suppliers. Heck i dont even act supprised anymore, come to think about it neither does my helper. I just call it a random act of stupidity..

Gene what version of control software are you using? The newer version has a popup reminder window that you have to click on to get rid of that reminds you to unclip alligator clip and put away plate. Maybe its time to upgrade! lol

I think I used our Z-Zero plate maybe twice before concluding that it was too prone to human error. I replaced the plate with a 2"x2" square of unetched, copper-clad pc board (from Radio Shack) bonded to the surface of the spoil board about 1/2" off the x/y zero point. It has a small wire soldered to one edge and that goes straight through the spoilboard and into the control cabinet in place of the original plate.
We have a spindle, so the clip is unnecessary. All I did was modify the z-zero routine to randomly pick a point somewhere in the PC board and touch off all automatically.
The operators have tried their darnedest ever since to break something, but without success.
