Can you output blender files to 3d. How do you get the to the shopbot? I tried to open a .3dm and it would not open. How do you use this program for modeling?

I've had great results exporting to an .STL file and then importing that into Millwizard. Next job we'll use Cut3D instead I think. Should work the same.

This is for "organic" forms that are fully 3D carved. I haven't tried to do anything 'flat' in it, for those kinds of things I just model in Revit or just draw in Insignia.

Martin:

Blender does export to quite a few different 3D file formats. I typically export as a wavefront .obj for importing into CUT3D and I have found the two (Blender and CUT3D) to be a great combination. Blender does have a bit of a learning curve. I suggest downloading the tutorials and do the practice examples. I've only been using Blender for about a month now and I have really developed a good appreciation for it. If your willing to take the time to learn the interace - Blender is a good - solid modeler.

OK, I save a file as a .dfx and I have tried to open it several way. Any suggestions? I figured it would have opened it and I could see that imiage like in any other program

Humm... strange... I just open both a 3D and a 2D DXF in Blender 2.43

Martin, if you tell us more about what you're trying to do I bet we can help you out. And Paco, for what it's worth, DXF imports got way better in Blender 2.43. They weren't so hot before.

I have a model I am working on in Rhino. I saved as a DFX. I closed Rhino and then triedd to open in Blender adn I do not see anything at all. I thought maybe the imiage is too small, butI just cannot see anything at all. Any suggestions?

Once imported, hit 'S' (for scale) key and drag to the right... Does that help?

As per Jeffrey suggested, do you have the latest Blender release?

I've had much better luck with OBJ then with DXF when it comes to Blender. Can Rhino export to OBJ?
