Thanks Bill.

Designing and building this art piece was a real pleasure. I was pleasantly surprised how many people noticed and appreciated that the structure was built without metal fasteners - only cnc cut wooden joinery.

I'm still cleaning the dust out of my ears and will post details about the project shortly.

I thought that was what Burning Man was all about?
Where are the pics of the structure ablaze?

Is that 3/4" plywood?

Can you make me one for keeps? My rent keeps going up.

This one is for keeps. It was dissassembled with a mallet and a pocketknife and will be back next year in it's next iteration. The beauty of this geometric class is that the same panels and more of the same panels can be used in structures of different configurations. Good luck trying that with a geodesic dome.

I was designing as I was cutting up to the last minute so the sketchup file is a mess. As soon as it's cleaned up I'll post it up to the 3D Warehouse for download.

It's a combination of 3/4" and 1" ACX Pine.

cheers

Good going Rob.

This is a project I could really get into.

I've always wanted to go to Burning Man but being blue eyed and, once upon a time, blonde, I'd roast.

Looks like a great project.

You should experience it at least once, or so I'm told...

Joe, just use plenty of sunscreen... especially if you avail yourself of the "clothing optional" rules...

Wow, imagine the fun you could have if it appeared overnight with no warning in Roswell, NM :-) Art, engineering and mystery all-in-one.

Rob, You mentioned Sketchup. I've been having no luck in trying to find out if Sketchup Pro works well with the Shopbot controller and Vectric programs. A lot of the 3D experts sneer at it but I'll never be one of those - I just want the easiest possible 3D program going that I'll be able to use to create 3D files that will work with SB's pending, pending... indexer upgrade :-) or other such software. Did you do this with Sketchup without issues? That would be fantastic.

The temple for Burning Man was cut on a ShopBot as well.

Long time coming I know..but here are a couple updates to this project. Thus far this structure has been assembled three times.

We have a little blog about it.

I've also uploaded a sketchup 3D model to the 3dwarehouse. From the 3D warehouse it can be downloaded directly into Google Earth and you can experience it very much as it was on the playa at Burningman.

..or it can be downloaded into Sketchup and viewed there.
