I wanted to see what folks know about this new-fangled toy: High Definition radio.. especially as it relates to the RF noise put out by my ShopBot Control Box and 5 Hp Columbo spindle.
I have a separate room for my ShopBot to keep the noise down while it is working, but the RF interference knocks the AM dial totally off.
So, does the HD radio pick up the RF noise ?

Don't know much about HD radio, however, Internet radio through a spare PC works just fine with a running Shopbot nearby.

Amplitude Modulation (AM) radio signals are always susceptible to RF noise. AM HD radio is still AM radio, just with a digital data stream instead of analog. Short of building a Faraday Cage around the ShopBot, I'm afraid this will always be an issue.
I recommend either FM or, as was previously suggested, streaming Internet radio.

All the stations in my area are using FM HD, simply digital information transmitted in the sidebands. I have a HD radio in my truck and when I get a strong signal the radio sounds great, but living in the mountains I find the signal goes in and out. Just like digital TV, you either have it or you don't. I can't help Bret with his question however as I've never tried it in my shop with machinery running.

Yep.. the internet comes through again. This forum is a great supplement to that part of my brain that should know this, but was removed by my 4 kids !!
Works like a charm !
