Extruder Bases?

I need to make some porch column bases.I was going to turn them on the lathe.

I would like to use the Shopbot.I thought I might use the Extruder.But so far I can only get it cut the profile on the inside instead on on the outside in preview mode.
Is it possible to do with the extruder?

Bill Y. would be the expert here but i believe you have to have a beginning and ending node point designated for the path that you want to extrude along with the dxf pattern of the profile you want to use. If i am envisioning what you want to do would basically a molding pattern but just curved in a ring with the inside being flat?

here is how i did it:
go into partwizard and make the profile you want to extrude

then i used a 1/4" endmill, cut along vector, and saved the toolpath as a sbp file (note you have to save with the pp "shopbot inch", no arcs allowed).
Then use the extruded as normal by putting your diameters in, i used these settings

And it worked ok for me. I will try to do a toolpath preview next and post it. What type of error messages are you getting?

it looks like it extruded correctly i think i didn't extrude along the right axis tho...but it looks like it created the extrusion however.

I'm just guessing here but it sounds like you need to move your profile to the negative side of the Y axis before you create the toolpath, so that all of it's X-axis values are negative. Then when you do the Extrude in an Arc, the "hole" in the extrusion will be the radius that you set in the Extruder, and your profile will be outside of that.

It could be that I'm not understanding your problem, though...if not send me an email with some details and I'll see what I can figure out.

I think you could do that in Aspire quite easily if you have access to it.
The 2 rail sweep does it well.The only problem would be the undercut on the bottom, if it was needed, although a round over bit on a router table could do that operation faster than flipping the part.
Let me know if you need help with it.

Preview and file insist that it cut 4+" deep

How do I set the material thickness?
