I've seen talk about analternative to Porter Cable routers being a Milwaukee router but doing a search on the archives doesn't yield any result describing what specific model, can someone tell me what it is? Is there anything special I need to know about mounting it in the shopbot, or will it go in without any special mount? Don't have my shopbot yet!

Jack,

There's a lot of information on the forum about the Milwaukee router. I've just done a 'search' on the word 'Milwaukee' and came up with more than enough imformation to make a decision on whether to buy or not buy the router. (If I didn't already have a spindle, I would buy the Milwaukee router as a replacement for the PC-7518; however, be advised that you'll have to 'shim' the Milwaukee to fit properly).

My search didn't lead me to any specific model numbers, which was what i was trying to figure out. What i did find on eBay was "NEW MILWAUKEE 5625-20 3-1/2 HP FIXED BASE ROUTER 15 AMP" I assume that might be the correct router. I don't understand what you mean by "shim" the router to fit? Thanks..

Jack,
The body of the Milwaukee is slightly smaller than the body of the PC-7518 (I've been told - I don't own a Milwaukee). The 'shim' could be thin pieces of metal or plastic that you would wrap around the Milwaukee so that it fit the PC-7518 mount unit. You might also check with Shopbot to see if they have a mount unit specifically designed for the Milwaukee.

From what others have posted, shimming the Milwaukee is not a big deal. It's something that can easily be done in a matter of minutes.

Does the Milwaukee blow the air down the same way the PC does? I like to be able to use the air flow diverter which as far as I know is only designed for the PC
