Hello all,

I've been struggling with this prs standard now for a few weeks. After many calls to shop bot and missing parts sent out and several trips to the hardware store for missing hardware I've gotten close to final hook ups at the control box.

I went ahead and read the manual for this portion as it had been awhile since my initial read thru and there was some vagueness about how to address the cabling on the far side of the bot to the control box.

After speaking with tech support and given some better idea on how to jerrry rig the cables back to the control box I got off the phone and started in on it. It was suggested that I hang the bundled carrier wires and spindle cable from the universal brackets (referred to as universal guard plates earlier in the manual),
Long story longer, after much fiddling with the cables and getting them hanging up without interfering it was now time to go after the hook ups inside the control box itself.
Two thing struck me:

The control box doesn't look like the one being described in the manual.

The motors appear to be already hooked up! This seemed odd..., why does my manual describe how to hook up the motor cables to the controllers when they look like they have been done already from factory? I'm referring to page 61 under "Hooking up your PRS Standard. Do I have an out of date manual?

Is it safe to assume the controllers are fried from having moved the X and YZ cars during cable fitting?

They are more durable than you would think, so possibly not fried. If they are already connected to the control box/computer cab.( I cant recall how mine came ) but turn it on and "connect" to the machine, then when you open SB, hit the "K" key and see if you can move the gantry by clicking arrow keys on your keyboard, or clicking arrows on the screen, they are more durable than you have been lead to believe, but dont use that as a license.

Don't know if this helps, but I got my PRS standard in August 2007. The manual at that time has a document title at the bottom of every page: SBG00315070515PRSAssemblyManual.doc

I had to hook up the motors exactly as described in this version of the manual. If you have the same manual, then perhaps your manual is indeed out of date. I would as ShopBot for a clarification.

Thanks Neville and John,

Hopefully the controllers will be all right. I looked on the bottom of my assembly manual it has prsassembly00922.doc on one side and a copyright 2007,2008 on the other side. Don't know if this is current or not.

The description for the wire hookups makes me think that it's not current but I'll try tech support on monday. The only photo reference that I can find is in the HSD spindle manual. It's showing a different control box than the one that I have. The HSD spindle manual is also copright 2007, 2008. This leads me to the conclusion that my assembly manual is referencing an older control box and is not current to the control box that I received.
This would seem to be a very poor showing on shopbot's part. I'm wondering if there are any other recent PRS purchasers that have recieved the same manual as I have? If the control box has been redesigned shouldn't the manual get revised to reflect this change?

I setup my PRS Standard a few months ago and while pictures/instructions were not entirely up to date I was still able to get everything wired correctly.

If you have any more specific questions regarding your setup ask away, some of us might be able to help.

Thanks Mike,

I will do that. I can see how the forum will be a big help.

Just out of curiosity, I had a weird time with the e-chain. When the upper and lower mounting brackets were installed according to the instructions and the e-chain was put on, the Z car would bind on it before reaching the end of it's travel (far left if standing in front of the spindle). Tech support and I compared what I had done to install it, measured the chain and compared it to what they had, compared the part #, how they had set theirs up on a machine, etc... Can't fault tech support. Those guy's are darn patient and helpful.
It finally worked out by simply switching the upper bracket from the left side to the right. Is that how you put yours on? Mine's working fine now. Just wondering.
