Figuring outside diameter? (half anyway)

I have a "half table" i'm making and the deminsions are 8" wide X 18" long and I need to figure out what the outside diameter of that face of the table because i'm going to try to figure out how to carve on the curve. I'm sure it is a simple formula but it's been too many years since high school. Help!

Thanks, it does help...dare i ask how to figure that out? You know, i'm sure i knew how to figure it at one time but my memory over the last year has gotten worse. I can get up out of the chair and get half way up the steps and forget why i was going up there...getting old

This is how I do it Jack. Oh, by the way just wait until your sitting there and can't remember why you where going to get out of the chair in the first place.

Chief Architect, I do all cad work with Chief. I have tried others Autocad, Artcam, and many more but for me none work better then Chief

If you search "calculating arc length" you can get the formula to calculate this from many sources. However like Frank I just open Autocad and draw it and get the measure I need from there.

I just realized I had the link bookmarked for a spreadsheet calculator that has come in handy many times for me. I have checked the "arcs" feature against other calculators and in reality from field dimensions and have always found it spot on:

I know this doesn't help but: many drawing programs let you make a outline or inline without limits. Then you type your copy on a curve. It very fast and easy.

One affordable program for this is Corel Draw. I'm sure there many others.
