So I finally got the lumber in to cut out my new book case, and it came out pretty well! Pics Here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/zorlack/sets/72157608075371329/).

I used some inexpensive Poplar Plywood from Home Depot. I cut the piece out of two sheets, plus a little scrap. The joints were very tight, but a persuader-action did the trick nicely.

Once it was all slotted together I used some screws to permanently affix the shelves. The screws are concealed under the tusk-shaped pieces. There's also another set of screws on the back.

This is my first version of this piece. People seem to like it so maybe I'll spend some more time on it and make it better. The #1 biggest problem with this design, as-is, is that it doesn't fit on two sheets of plywood. This was a major oops.

Anyways, here it is (http://zorlack.com/design/cnc/#parenthesismk1), for anyone who wants one. Once again I'm licensing this work under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license.

I really like the looks of this. I will have to make it when I can afford more wood. rarry just got born today.
watch out with that cheap ply I have found metal in it twice and it can come apart.

What kind of metal? Like staples? Yikes! I through in a fresh bit for this job too

This wood ran me about $40 per sheet. So at least it's not _the_ cheapest I could have used. And actually it looks pretty good. Looks like about 9 layers, and only needs a light sand after cutting.

I guess you did not go down the scale enough (G) I have never bought it but my customers have. the 20 to 30 a sheet is where the bad lays. the mental was some kind of flat sliver.
