Has anyone yet used their iPod or iPhone to measure Z-axis deflection? With extended axes now available for the Shopbot, I'm seeing the topic come up more. The iPod/iPhone has a built-in accelerometer/clinometer capability so I just downloaded what appears to be one of the highest rated multi-functional inclinometer/level app's for a whopping 99 cents! Now all I need to do is find a friendly engineer who can tell me the best way to velcro it on the head of my router/spindle so that I can compare deflection at/with different Z extensions, cutting speeds, bit diameters, arcs and so on. It's got to be better than using a tape measure and cussing after-the-fact. Especially at 99 cents.

Actually, I may just be able to figure out the velcro (or similar) part. It's the "how to use the data part" that makes things interesting.
