I was cutting a small file today and needed to pause the machine. I pushed "S" for ramp stop and it did what it was supposed to. I then moved a clamp and hit resume then the spindle slammed into the table a jog speed and burried the bit in the spoilboard and did not stop when I hit the space bar so I turned off the control box. This has happened before with an earlier version of the control software. I updated it and until now have had no problem. I also had the vac on and immediately tore the spoil board off and found this (see pic) Can anyone tell me what happened?

you are not alone... but what version of control software are you using at the moment... I had a similar mishap a few weeks back... buried the bit in the spoil board and then headed for the hills.. space bar did nothing.. but the hesitation before hitting the panic button cost the bit.. the er collet and the nut.. there was a thread going about problems with one of the recent versions of control software..

The latest is 3.6.12 which really does seem to have improved the keyboard response.

Fortunatly my control box is right next to my work station and I can kill power quickly. I will get the new version and install but that does not answer the question. BTW It happened both times on restart from ramp stop.

It very well may answer the question. Many of the sofware versions were not stable. The latest seems to be working pretty well. Also do a speed test to make sure you are connected well with the usb. Mine dove into the table when the speed test was only at 56%. Above 70% it is better.
