I've got this thing moving along and done some part cuts with no trouble. I've started carving some raised profile plaques as well. Here are a few open questions...

First, I'm using MDF for a couple of reasons, softer, cheap to mess up and if I'm successful I can have something useful.

What is the max cutting speed for the X-Y with a 1/4" bit in MDF? I ramped it up to 5" / sec doing a 1/8" area clear at a time.

At 3 passes I cut 3/4" MDF fully at 2" / sec Am I too slow, too fast?

It took the bot 15 minutes to cut a 16" x 8" rasied profile plaque. It's fairly simple with about 80% of the surface being cleared down to a depth of just over 1/4" at 3 passes. Does this seem about right or should I carve up to 1/4" in one pass?

My MDF carvings are fuzzy at the bottom of the area clear. I've seen clean MDF carvings. I'm using a 1/4" spiral down cut. Would up cut be a better choice or would that fuzz the profiled edges which are crisp right now?
