I am upgrading my PRT with a new box with Geckos and Oriental 3 amp 7.2 gear motors. I am having problems with my gantry jumping track.

The motor mounts were different and the axles on the motors were shorter than the original 2 amp motors so I had to make new plates to fit the motors to the rack. I don't know if maybe that fit up is fussy and the problem is there.

Or I don't know if it could be in the precision of the table: not square or whatever.

Or I don't know if it is in the controller whether the A-axis motor(on the X axis rack) is missing steps. It did appear as if it was hesitating. This derailment happens mostly on start-up of movement.

The motors seem to have a max of 300 ipm and I am derailing at about 240ipm. My original PRT setup did 180 ipm max (and seemed unstable at that higher speed). Although this new setup is more stable at that slower 180 ipm speed. But thats too slow for me.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Mike, do you happen to be using Mach3 to run this new setup? If so, try lowering the accel/decel settings. Sounds like it may be attempting to take off to quickly.

Thanks, Scott. I did lower the accel/decel. I'm wondering if it is in the table or if one motor is hesitating from the box.

Make sure that both motors are actually turning. Additionally, you should make sure the motors are slaved and both are turning in the same direction.

Just another thought...Could it be a slaving problem? I see you mentioned "A" on the "X". I don't know much about that though. Check for any binding though too.
