i am thinking of buying a cut file for the last supper. vector art has one for $75, 3d model club has one for $150. i have never seen either one are the details & depths similar or that much better in one than the other i have used vector art in past for other models & have been very happy. has anyone seen these side by side to compare i would like your input
thanks jeff

Jeff,

I have the VectorArt3D one and think the detail is excellent. In many respects the detail you will get is controlled by the size you make it and the bit you use for the finish path. Depending on the X,Y and Z dimensions you set, an 1/8" ball nose will give you great detail. And if you use a 1/16" ball nose you will get excellent detail.

For me, one of the advantages of the VectorArt3D models is the preview they advertise on their website is real world using a commonly available ballnose bit. On the other hand, 3D Model Club shows the clay sculpture with unrealistic Z depth so while the picture looks great, achieving that quality in a machined carving is a real challenge, if not impossible.

Just my opinion.

Tim

While not that particular deisgn, I have purchased from both sites. My experience is that the 3D Model Club designs tend to be about twice as "deep" as VectorArt3D designs. i.e. VectorArt3D designs tend to have the maximum Z depth about 6% to 8% of the maximum dimension whereas 3D Model Club designs run the Z about 12% to 14% of the maximum dimension.

So on a 24" design the max Z depths might be:
VectorArt3D: 1.44"-1.92"
3D Model Club: 2.88"-3.36"

You can flatten either one to 1.5", but as you reduce the Z-depth by more that 25% the loss of detail becomes significant.

I think VectorArt3D and other places are outstanding resources to prevent one from reinventing the wheel.
Free Market Capitalism in all its glory.
I've used Turbosquid and am quite happy with the models purchased there. This was for 3D printing.

It should be pointed out any of us can post models and profit from our efforts!
Metatags are key.

You put together a model that takes weeks to build...why not put the model for sale on line?

I bought one model but the depth is so deep it would be pretty hard to cut it out. a 12x12 needs about 2" with a 1/8" ballnose. that's pushing it quite a bit.
