I'm about to embark on engraving some brass. I have a diamond point bit as well as many V-carving bits. I'm making small plates with some text on them. I would like to engrave the text. then cut out rectangle blanks around the text. I have a file set up and ready to go, I'm just struggling with how to properly set up the tooling.

I've not been able to find a tutorial or anything like that to get me started in this new undertaking and wanted to find out if you kind folks could provide some guidance/advice before I ruin an expensive sheet of brass.

How should I set up my tooling? Should I engrave with a v-bit or the diamond bit I have? The brass sheet is .02" thick, what should I set my engraving depth to? Can I use the v-bit to cut most of the way through the brass so I can break it into the rectangles I have laid out around the text?

Thank you in advance.
