Not easily. Aside from buying the software or finding a friendly software owner, as far as I've been able to find, there is no conversion software. My research showed that max files don't store all the data need to generate the 3d, they store operations, sequence and algorithm numbers on a base set of data. Generic conversion isn't able to be done without reinventing 3dmax. Software that claims conversion runs 3dmax.

(nope, I don't run 3dmax).
