So I started cutting the Al, going pretty well til sheet lifts & bit breaks. I figure out which line I need to restart at, but cant start the spindle at the same time , or if I press Alt 1, then I cant go to the line I want, as spindle is armed and ready to start, thus locking the control panel, what am I missing?? TIA Nev

Neville,
Are you using the "go to" command under file? I don't have a spindle so I am not familar with the process.
Hope this helps. I have had to use it quite a bit.

Yes, Im using the go to line in file, but cant switch spindle on then, nor run "go to " if I arm the spindle with Alt 1

I step through the file from the start until I've got past the spindle startup and then do a goto from there.

I've brought the file into editor and left the first few lines that set move speed, start spindle and dc etc, them remove the lines with the move commands down to the point I want to restart. You may need to add a jog with z above safe height to get you where you need to be to start.

There is a function to start a file from a specific line. I tried to go find that actual command, but the new shopbot operating program doesn't show the shopbot, just preview.
It's under file, goto.
After that it is self explainatory.
Piece of advise, where ever you decide to start from, move the bot to that X/Y position before starting the program.
Depending on how you start the file, it may move the bit to the z position, and move at the same time, so you end up with a crashed carving. But if you already have the bit at the x/y postion the bit is moved to z then starts.
Works very well. I often use it to stop a file for things like customers, lunch and naps.

Make sure that you properly position the spindle to a location that is clear to ramp to the location you are starting with (the location to where the bit broke), just before the goto statement because you are skipping over a number of positioning statments (M2 or M3)
Would hate to drive the bit through clamps or ramp into the workpiece at the incorrect spot due to a starting location problem.
