    Default Drill spindle

I'm designing the tool holders for the second Z. Is it desireable to have the tools centered exactly the same distance from the Z plate, or is it a non-issue?

it's pretty much a non-issue. what's important is that you know the x and y offset of the tool centers after they're mounted.

the easiest way I've found is to put identical bits into each tool then use a modified z-zero program to set the x and y zero from one tool and measure the offset to the other. if you put the bits in upside down, so that the shaft is sticking down, you don't need to worry about cutter alignment.
