    Default Dust skirt?

Is there any reason NOT to trim down the fingers on the dust skirt? Right now I have a router and the bit only sticks out max, maybe 1/2 from the skirt. Cutting anything thicker than that mashes the skirt on the material which I know isn't how it was intended.
I will possibly be switching to a spindle in the future. Would trimming the skirt cause me problems when I get the spindle?

    Thanks

When you get a spindle, order a new skirt with it. Shorter is nice for a router, but longer is better with the spindle.

you can raise the skirt too. but if you use longer bits you may find it too short.

Thanks for the help. With the skirt at its highest point, there is only 1/4 to 1/2" of the bit exposed(and I have the bit further out than I'd like). I cut a 1" thick piece yesterday and the skirt was mashed into the piece.
I may have to cut it down at least a bit.

as long as it does not effect the z though it is not a big deal. I had that once though the cut stopped because the z could not plunge enough.
