This is a sample I cut out for a local church. Thia is out of pine, going to do one out of oak and cherry so they can decide on material. Measures 3 1/2" square x 3/4" thick.

Hard to tell from the pic... the interior of the circle is recessed? Everything else is flush with top of material?

Yes, then used a 1/4" round over to outline it all.
